Jermaine Cantu has been named the lone finalist for superintendent of Gruver ISD, bringing 20 years of experience in public education and a strong record of leadership, service, and student-focused results. For the past 11 years, Cantu has served as principal of Wellington High School, where he has led efforts to strengthen academic performance, expand student opportunities, and build a positive school culture grounded in high expectations.

Prior to Wellington, Cantu served in the Amarillo Independent School District as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. He was recognized early in his career as the Lamar Lively Secondary Teacher of the Year for 2008–2009 at Sam Houston Middle School. His leadership extends beyond the campus, as he has served on multiple boards and as pastor of Trinity Fellowship Wellington. In 2017, he was honored as Collingsworth County Man of the Year.

Cantu is currently pursuing his doctorate in educational leadership from West Texas A&M University, reflecting his commitment to continuous growth and effective leadership.

He and his wife, Ashly, a dedicated educator of 15 years, are the proud parents of four children: Noah, a graduating senior and valedictorian who will attend Texas Christian University; Jax, a freshman; Collier, a sixth grader; and Callahan, a fifth grader.

Cantu shared that he is honored for the opportunity to serve Gruver ISD and is eager to partner with students, staff, families, and the community to build on the district’s strong tradition of excellence.
